How do I transfer my Lincoln vehicle ownership using the Lincoln Way App?
If you are selling or gifting your vehicle, the Lincoln Way®* App gives you access to self-transfer services. Use the steps below for more details.
Important: Before you attempt to change your vehicle's ownership, ensure the following criteria are met:
- Both the current owner and new owner must have Lincoln Way Accounts.
- The vehicle must be added to Lincoln Way.
Transferring a Vehicle
Select from the drop-down options below to find the instructions to transfer a vehicle for current owners and new owners:
Current Owner Instructions

- Navigate to the Service tab.
- Select the Service History tile.
- Tap the Transfer button.
- Enter the new owner's email.
Note: Only emails associated with a Lincoln or Ford account will be verified by the system. If the email is valid and associated with an account, the Transfer button will turn blue. In the event the new owner does not have a Lincoln Way account, they will need to create one to proceed. Visit the article ¿Cómo creo una de Lincoln? for registration steps.
- Select Transfer.
The Lincoln Way App will now say "Transfer Pending" on the Service History screen and the new owner must complete the rest of the transfer process outlined in the New Owner Instructions section below within 10 days.
New Owner Instructions
After the current owner completes the transfer request, you will receive a Transfer of Ownership notification. It will inform you that you have 10 days to accept the transfer.

- Open the notification.
- Select View Details.
- Tap the box if you agree to the conditions stated.
- Select Submit. You will receive a success screen.
Note: If the vehicle is equipped with an embedded modem, you will be prompted to complete a Master Reset.
If for any reason the request expires before the New Owner accepts, the Current Owner can send another request and restart the process.
