What are the phone requirements for Android Auto?

Not all Android devices are compatible with Android Auto and SYNC®*. Your device must meet the requirements outlined below.

You must have:

  • The Android Auto app downloaded from the Google Play Store.
  • A vehicle equipped with Lincoln Digital Experience, SYNC 4, or SYNC 3.
  • An Android phone with an active data plan.
  • A phone that meets the operating system (OS) requirements based on the vehicle's SYNC generation and connection type in the table below.

Lincoln Digital Experience | SYNC 4A USB connection requires a device with Android 9.0 or newer.

A wireless connection requires: 

  • A Google or Samsung phone with Android 10.0 or newer.
  • A Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, or Note 8 with Android 9.0.
  • Android 11.0 or newer for all other Google or Android phones.

Note: SYNC 4 Bluetooth® connection requirements vary by phone manufacturer. If a wireless connection is not working, connect using a manufacturer-approved USB cable.

To use Android Auto, the phone must:

  • Have Android 9.0 or newer.
  • Be connected to SYNC via a manufacturer-approved USB cable.
